The Key To Finding The Most Profitable Niche Markets
Talk to any successful Internet marketer about niche marketing and you will hear the same things. The most profitable niche markets are those with a relatively high demand for information, little supply to meet the need and the potential for profit. Does this mean you should not try to get involved in a market with a lot of competition? Not always. What it does mean is that you must find a sub-niche on which to focus.
The most profitable markets of 2010 are not all that different to the popular markets of the past several years. The category of “making money online” always rates as one of the most popular and profitable markets. However, even though there is a lot of money to be made in this market, there are a lot of “big players” sucking the profits and making it hard for the “little guys” to compete. According to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool, the phrase “Internet marketing” had 2,740,000 global searches during March of 2010 and 265,000,000 websites are online to meet the needs of people searching for that phrase. Clearly, if you want to profit in this extremely saturated category, you will need to focus on a smaller niche of this larger market.
Another profitable market is health, weight loss and people looking for information on how to quit smoking. The term “weight loss” had 16.5 million searches performed in March. Results from that search phrase using a search engine showed 186 million websites with information on weight loss. More than a million people are looking information to help them quit smoking. Once again, these gigantic markets are much too big to effectively market to. Focusing on a sub-niche is much more profitable.
For the past several years, “credit repair” has seen a large number of searches. More than 41.1 billion websites provided information to 673,000 global searches. The phrase “credit card debt solutions” had only 5400 searches, but 3,000,000 websites catered to those people looking for information on that search phrase. So there is obviously too much competition and not enough demand here.
Other profitable markets include items related to pets, relationships and divorce, travel, green living and alternative energy, self-development and gaming. Each of these industries is so large that you must focus on one small segment of it. However, each offers the potential for some very large profits.
Finding a sub-niche that will make you a lot of money requires some work on your part. By using a keyword tool like the Google AdWords Keyword Tool, you can identify how many searches were done during a particular time period and the forecast as to whether this trend will continue. You are looking for keyword phrases with between 30,000 and 70,000 Global Monthly Searches and relatively low advertising competition.
The current most profitable markets have remained reasonably constant over the last few years. However, as these markets have so much competition, it is very important that you do keyword research to discover the least competitive and most under-catered for niche within the markets of your choice - and to find out which keywords to target in your material (blog posts, articles, videos etc). Just a few hours of due diligence in the beginning stages could equal a substantially larger profit margin in the long run.
